Hi All,
I found a baptismal record for my G-Grandmother
Emma Kristine Petersen in Vega, Nordland in 1884

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=2544&idxid=2544&uid=ny&idx_side=-115

also there is her marriage record there as well in 1908 IIRC.

The Baptismal record lists her parents as
Martinius Petersen
and
Martine Petersen

I think I may have found applicable cencus records for Martinius in the 1865 record. but am lost on Martine.

any help would be appreciated.

Wow... so much info :) Thanks to you all. I'm going to print some of this out and try and absorb it. For one thing I think I was missing parish registers altogether, and have started looking through some of them. . One funny thing though is that the one sibling I know of for Emma (and I'm by no means saying she didn't have others) I'm not seeing. She had a brother Magnor, born around 1880/1. He came to America.

I wonder if this is your Magnor in the 1900 Norwegian Census. If so it indicates he was born in 1881 but in Tromsø.

wow ya'll are soooo good. I looked at the farm Lyngøen where Martinius grew up on in the 1875 and 1900 cencus... his parents remained but he was gone by 1875. Gone to seek work in Tromso?

I found what I believe to be their wedding record at #45

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?show=285&uid=143859&urnread_imagesize=full&hode=nei&ls=1&lc=x%259CK%25B42%25B2%25AA.%25B62%25B4R%25CAT%25B2.%25B62%25B1R2375%25031%2581B%25C5J%25D6%2599VF%2516%25A6%25D6%25B5%2500%25C9%25F9%2509%25F9

two things... any help with her father name and her birthplace would be awesome, it's very hard to make out AND in Emmas birth record back in Vega... Martine is listed as Martine Petersdtr but in the marriage record... it looks like it might be different. Would that make sense?

OK on edit... I just went back to ancestry and Magnor has a WW1 draft card with Middle Name of Parelius... I'm thoroughly convinced that thats the family . Still cant read that handwriiting though LOL

I had a little trouble using your link for whatever reason so here is it posted again. You are correct this is the marriage of Marinius and Martine at #45. And in this record she is listed under her name of Martine Eline Mortensdatter. She is also listed under the name of Martine Pedersdatter in several places. I think the explanation for this is found in the posting by Harald (Hasto). Go back to where he posted the link to the 1865 Norwegian Census. There she is listed as Matrine Elina Mortensdatter but is a stepdaughter of Peder Jacobsen. It may be that she will be listed as either the name of her father Morten or the name of her step father Peder in the church records.
