I am looking for advice on how to find my father's naval service. Mr. Patrick Fielder St.Claire Dunn who was an officer in the mercantile marine and in the service of the Norwegian Government WW2.
For initiative he displayed when his ship was torpedoed (Atlantic ocean) he was awarded The Grand Order of St.Olaf which is allegedly the highest Norwegian decoration. He had not however, received the medal from King Haaken.
Would I, as his only surviving offspring, be able to receive the medal as part of his service history (it would be very meaningful for me)?
How would I go about accessing this piece of history. Any and all suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you,
Patricia Dunn (his daughter).

Guess the experts on the medals would be the dispenser of the medals. Here is a link norwayheritage has displayed before:

A well deserved medal when your father was awarded to St. Olavs Orden

The Norwegian Merchant fleet after the outbreak of the war was organized in a company shortened to Nortraship and was Norways contribution to bring supplies to the allied forces. Nortraship consisted of 1000 ships and ca 30.000 sailors.
Ca 40 % of the ships were sunk and ca 10% of the sailors were killed.

Hopefully you can look for his name and get more info here and here

King Hċkon also gave a Defence Medal in bronze to all who partisipated in WW2, link

The recommendation on who should recieve the dif. medals were collected in and forwarded to the king came from the Dep. of defence.
I would contact the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, link at the bottom of the page, link

Good luck
