Since John Tarjesen was 53 years old when he and his son Knud and daughter Maren left for America in 1853, I looked for his birt/baptism approx 1800.
Also when John Tarjesen, Storedal and Ingeborg Ansteensdatter were married in 1821, John was said to be 23 years old, birth approx 1798.

Note that I said a "candidate" for John could be the one born in Vinje.
More research is needed.

Einar

Here's more to narrow in on John's age

Source information: Aust-Agder county, Risør, Parish register (official) nr. A 3 (1838-1864), Migration records 1850, page 442.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=822&idx_id=822&uid=ny&idx_side=-398

Record #5. Migration Oct 23, 1850 John Torgesen moves to Risør

When I first found this record, I ignored the Knudt since it was squeezed. I thought someone added it later...
