I learned in another topic, on the genealogy forum, that a great grandfather of mine was living "on Espesaeter in Kinn" in 1865. I've done a bit of google-searching on what looks to be an incredibly lovely, if rocky, island - Kinn - and now wonder if the Espesaeter reference is to a farm or other holding? Seems like scant land for farming on Kinn. And the "ae" after the "s" is the melded letter....

Wondering what clues this might provide to my great-great grandfather's line of work....

Please excuse my ignorance; I'm painfully new here. And thanks!

Espesæter is the name of a farm on the Kinn island, I have not been able to locate it on this map.
Zooming and panning may give you some idea of the landscape. The 1865 census say there were farmers and fishermen. Looks like the farming could be good for sheep and goats.
