I've been working on tracking one of my wife's relatives. In the course of that search I came upon this record:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/ft/person/pf01037045119144

It lists her "religion" was Frelsesarmeen which I understand is the Salvation Army in Norway.

Does anyone know of any history of what the Salvation Army was doing in Norway at this time and why she might have put that as her religion?

For background, the woman I'm looking for - Anna (Annie) Opsal - immigrated to the US in 1915 and settled in Northfield MN as a housekeeper. She later married Per Algot ("Algot Pearson" in the US) and died in 1972 in Northfield.

Thanks!

It will take some translating -
http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frelsesarmeen

WHY she would list that as a religion? Why is usually impossible to guess.

Let me restate that... it is not impossible to GUESS but it is usually impossible to prove.

lol Thanks. This is true that it may be a guess but I thought maybe someone had seen it before and that it might have some significance.

I found an earlier reference to her on the other side of Oslo. I don't have it handy but she was about 8 years old, living with a family of another name and her "job" was listed as "house servant". Then she appears on the SE side as a house keeper associated with the salvation army and suddenly she emigrates to the US. Honestly I kind of wondered if it might not suggest that she was an orphan.
