Here is a Knut Meland born Jan 1910, in the Social Security Death Index. Must have lived in California at one time.

It would be nice if you could share some more information on the man you are seeking. There is a Knut Meland who was born on Jan 5, 1910, in Avaldsnes and seems to have also died there. Is this the person you are looking for. Was he ever married??

Here is the family in the 1910 Norwegian Census. I see there is also a son named Johannes. I wonder if he is the John Meland, that I kept coming across in my search of the California records.

And he changed his name to John Meland in 1929.

Johannes Austevik in the U.S., Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1795-1972 (World Archives Project)

Unfortunately it looks as if he died in California, however he must have lived there a long time. He states in his Naturlization Petition that he is married, wife Betha and son Ommund.
