My great grand parents were from Salthammer, Vestnes, Norway.

Can anyone tell me the origin of this name, does it have a meaning.

The farm has probably once been called Hammer named after a small rock
It was probably extracted salt there from boiling seawater.

Salthammer today is a yard for small boats link
