Wow, that's great. The 1920 census in Brooklyn says
Anders b ca 1877 emigrated 1895
John b ca 1880 emigrated 1892
Martin b ca 1891 emigrated 1911.

Now return to the 1910 census. Syvert and John have a small "f" in the last column. This means they are not present. They are away.To the left of each name is a number. Click it, and look up above. You'll see a notation for both, that they are in Brooklyn.

God bless the 1910 census, for so clearly tying our American families to their correct birth family back home.

This is likely the arrival of John Mikkelsen. I suspect that John travelled back and forth to Norway several times. Note the place listed for his birth is likely Øiestad (Oyestad) Arendal. Slight misspelling of transcription. The original passenger manifest on Ancestry.com shows that he is going to Brooklyn and that his father is Mikkel Mortensen of Asdal, Arendal.

John Mikkelsen in the New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: John Mikkelsen
Arrival Date: 28 May 1913
Birth Date: abt 1879
Birth Location: Norway
Birth Location Other: oistad arendal
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Scandinavian
Port of Departure: Christiania
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Hellig Olav'

This emigration record probably matches this trip.

Yes I found three trips for John Mikkelsen Aasdal 1905, 1909, 1913 - and probably went earlier per 1920 census.

First trip for John should be ca 1892, per 1920 census. Maybe these comings and goings are registered in the church book migrations list. If departing as a seaman, might not show up in searchable emigrations database on Digital Archives.

I can't find the reference to the burials being at Bjorbekk...maybe someone else can help.
I would think the burials would be in the home church cemetery (often in the church yard) - in this case, Øyestad kirke (church). Graves must be maintained by paying fees, and many graves are not, after some time, so they are reused. Aasdal was a farm in Øyestad, Arendal, Aust-Agder.

Gravminer website indicates burrial at Bjorbekk

2890832 Mikkel Mortensen 1913 1112 1913 A6 01 2 Bjorbekk Arendal Send korrigering

http://www.disnorge.no/gravminner/vis.php?id=0906&mode=gp&start=60

I was not able to find a record for Anne on Gravminer but both of the records posted by Einar show the name Bjorbak in the Anmækninger (Remarks) column. So it is likely that both are buried at Bjorbakk, Arendal.

An interesting side story....my mother (Syvert's daughter) is still alive and doesn't remember an Uncle John. She knows of Uncle Andy (Anders) and Uncle Morten.
