Interesting that although the son Svend Paulsen went to America with his grandmother Rønnaug Iversdatter and uncle Jacob, his mother and father stayed in Norway at least they are found in the 1875 Norwegian Census.

A little more information on Theodore Hammer. He married Elina L (Ella) Johnson in 1898 probably in the State of Washington. Ella was born in May of 1878 in the area of America known at that time as the Dakota Territories. Her father was Arne Johnson and mother Lena Anderson. In 1900 Theodore and his wife Ella were living in Washington with his father-in-law Arne Johnson and his very large family

Thank you so much, again! I am so impressed about all you have found! In "Find a grave" I did find Marit Bolstad born in 1832, who I guess is Marit Hammer. I do find it a little bit strange that her son, Svend, didn't travel with Marit and Paul Bolstad (his parents), but instead travelled with his grandmother, aunt and uncle with family. But I guess it was a good reason for it. I now have to find out when Marit and Paul emigrated to Amerika.

This is what#347; in "Find a grave" about Marit.

Great find I think you have found the whole family. Here they are in 1880 US Census in Minnesota.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZ9X-H12

And again in Minnesota in the 1895 Minnesota State census

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQDY-YQ9

And again in 1900 US Census. Marit is misspelled The daughter of Marit and Paul married a Syver Syverson and are living with that family. The daughter also named Marit died in 1900 before the census was taken.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9SB-BVK

I think that Sven has changed his name to Sam for the 1900 US Census.

Since Sven used the last name of Bolstad and not Hammer I wonder if Hans C used the last name of Christensen or Christenson instead of Hammer. Living next to Sam P Bolstad in the 1900 U S Census is a Hans Christenson and his family.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9S1-3WL

Hans was born 18 April 1865 which does match the birth month and year shown in the 1900 US Census.

https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/kb20070130640449

Also living next to Hans Christenon is a Lars Hammer who is listed as being the son of Hans K Hammer and Marit Roe found earlier in the topic.

The death record of Lars Hammer.

Has Bio?: Y

Thank you for the last information! The only person I dont have anything about now seems to be the "main person" - Rønnaug Iversdatter Hammer, born in 1805, the mother/mother in law and grandmother of all the people we now have found. Since Rønnaug is not in the list from 1880 where her children and grandchildren still live in Martin, MN, I ll suppose she might has passed away before 1880? I dont know if they had church records before 1880? I guess I might be able to contact the lutheran church in Martin (if there still is one there) for more information. Again, thank you!

Do you know Ronnaug's actual birthdate?

Here is a "long shot" at FAG:

Not sure how the poster knew this was "Mother"

Yes a church might provide some information on Rønnaug Iversdatter. The two counties that the families are found in early on in their American life are Watonwan and Martin. They are one top the other in southern Minnesota. Here is the name of the church that records the burial of one son Hans.

Hans K Hammer
in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Records, 1875-1940
Name: Hans K Hammer
Event Type: Burial
Death Date: 22 Feb 1915
Burial Date: 24 Feb 1916
Church Name: St Olaf Lutheran
Church Location: Odin, Minnesota

Odin, Watonwon, Minnesota

Hans and his large family were living in Odin, Watonwon, Minnesota in the 1875 Census. I have looked at the original page for this census and Rønnaug is not with the family.

Hans Hammer
in the Minnesota, Territorial and State Censuses, 1849-1905
Name: Hans Hammer
Age: 46
Census Date: 1 May 1875
County: Watonwan
Locality: Odin
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Male
Estimated birth year: abt 1829
Father's Birth Location: Norway
Mother's Birth Location: Norway
LINE: 19
Roll: MNSC_18

I've gone line by line through St. Olaf's funeral register. The earliest entry is from 1873 and I found no Ronnaug with any last name.

The other county the family lived in early on in their American life was Marin County. Here is the other son Jacob in the 1875 Minnesota Census. Rønnaug is not with this family either.

Jac S Hammes
in the Minnesota, Territorial and State Censuses, 1849-1905
Name: Jac S Hammes
Age: 33
Census Date: 1 May 1875
County: Martin
Locality: Cedar
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Male
Estimated birth year: abt 1842
Race: White
Father's Birth Location: Norway
Mother's Birth Location: Norway
LINE: 1
Roll: MNSC_11

I have not found an ELCA church in Martin County, but Svend Bolstad was married in Rosendale Lutheran Church which may serve Marin County?

Samuel P Bolstad
in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Records, 1875-1940
Name: Samuel P Bolstad
Event Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 23 Mar 1881
Marriage Place: Martin, Minnesota

Father: Paul Bolstad
Mother: Marit Hanserd
Church Name: Rosendale Lutheran
Church Location: Madelia, Minnesota

Their original destination was McGregor. There are at least two of those in US, one in Texas and one in Iowa....

A daughter Annie Sofie was born to Jakob T Hammer and Ragnhild on Jan 11, 1874 and recorded in the "All U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Records, 1875-1940 results for St Olaf, Odin". Page 160

The list of witnesses are Ragnhild Embretsdatter, Dorthea Olsen, John Syversen and Peder Olausted?. No sign of Rønnaug Iversdattr.

John Syvesen is probably the brother of Syver Syversen who ended up married to Marit daughter of Paul and Marit Bolstad. The parents of John and Syver are Syver Johnson and Marit Amundsdatter born 1818 in Vaaga, Oppland, Norway.

Looking carefully at the 1875 Minnesota Census there are only 120 people born in Norway living in Martin County, Minnesota. In the family of Jakob T Hammer there is a woman whose name looks like Regina Hammer age 68. I wonder if this is not Rønnaug Iversdatter with her name slightly changed.
