I am looking for a place called Hag Busnes where my grandfather was born in 1887. I have not been able to find it using maps. It could be spelled incorrectly.

I believe it is in or near Lufoten.

Thanks

Busnes is a small population center, 2-3 farms, at the western shore of Lake Tinnsjø in Gransherad

Thank you for your information.
May I ask does the name Hag mean anything with regard to this place?
Just trying to understand the way it is written.

Perhaps you meant Lofoten in Nordland? If yes, then that is quite a distance from Tinn or Gransherad in Telemark.

The 1900 census shows places called Bustnes/Bustnæs in Nord-Rana, Nordland.

Also in 1900 there is a district called Buksnes in Nordland AND a group of farms there called Hag.

Would your grandfather still be in Norway for the 1900 census? If yes, then what was his name and/or names used? any more detail about birth date? Names of parents or other family?

Konrad Nikoli Johnansen. Arrived in US in 1909 although I dont have much information before that. That is why I am here.
Immigration records say born in Hag Busnes or another document says Bag Busnes.
I remember he said he was from Lufoten.
Born June 23rd, 1887

Thank you

In the 1900 Norwegian census residing on a farm known as Hag nedre in Buksnes, Nordland a young boy there listed by traditional patronymic name as Konrad Kristensen, his father was Kristen Lund Johansen and when he left Norway he could well have decided to use his father's traditional patronymic name as an American surname.... or even Lund?

Oops - forgot to include link to the census page.

This sounds very plausible. He did adopt the name Lund after arriving in the US. Looking at Buksnes on Google it seems correct.

In the online database "Matrikkelutkastet av 1950" the farm appears spelled as Haug. So that may be what you will find also on modern maps.
