Thank you so much for all the information Kåre! Elidas father, Hans Olav Olsen (Løvås/Katrud) is (Løvås/Katrud) part of his last name or is a place he is from/born? Are you related?

I am not related
Both Løvås and Katrud are farm names: Løvås means Leaf (Løv) and hillside (ås)

Elida Olsen's grandfater was Ole Andersen Katrud/Katterud, his father was Anders Olsen Katrud/Katterud born Mai 21. 1785. Parents: "Soldat" Soldier Ole Andersen and Ragne Svendsdatter Katterud, right page #38 He was baptized in Frogner church from 1694.

Farm Katterrud/Katrud is located to Lier

1577 Katrud was "Krongods" owned by the crown (the king)
Your family, Anders Andersen farm Sandåker 1716-1789 and wife Sigrid Pedersdatter 1723-1802 bought a part of Katrud 1757 from his brother in law .

It takes some study and practice but yes, family history in Norway is almost always possible to be expanded by an interested descendant.

Lier and Eiker are two districts in Buskerud, Norway. Lier's parish church records still exist for years as early as 1672, and Eiker's as early as 1683. It is the parish records where you will find records of births/marriages/deaths.

Both Lier and Eiker also have published history/genealogy books about them which if you can deal with the Norwegian language may be helpful to you.
“Liers Historie”, series of 6 volumes by Rolf Fladby, Ola Bjerkas and Steffen Gausemel. Nov 2013 Online: http://www.lier.kommune.no/liers-historie/gaardsregister.htm
“Eker: Træk av en storbygds saga”, 2 volumes by Nils Johnson.

Many times you can use a Family Tree as a guide to help your search and then use the Bygdebøker listed by Hopkins to confirm as best you can the validity of the Tree.

For example follow this Tree back in time from your ancestor until you reach Per Ericksen b 1620 died 1688.

Geni Tree

Then go to the gaardsregistr for Lier using the link that Hopkins provided above. Find this section on Katterud.

"Brukere.

I) Henrik, br. seinest 1593-1637. II) Rasmus, br. 1637 ca. 1650. III) Per Eriksen, f. ca. 1620, d. 1688, brukte gården fra omkring 1650, og kjøpte den av bygsla i 1685. "

See if it matches up with the Tree, hint it does. Then use a combination of Bygdebok and Tree to work out a Family Tree of your own.

Sometimes you have to switch from husband to wife to keep going back in time. Here you switch over to Sigrid Pedersdatte b 1721 to eventually get to Per Ericksen.

Contact the two persons in the GENI family tree from 2008 above and send them and e-mail; Click on Martin Severin Eriksen from Sweden and Rune Christian Foyn from Norway.

I'm sure they will be happy to get in contact with a relative from USA.
