Can anyone give me some advice to find the parents of Peder (Per) and Mariane Simons. Indrekvam. I have found their marraige record on the Digitalarkivet. They were married 24 June 1872 in Sogn and Fjordane county. Groom's home parish Forde, groom home Botnen. I have also found their burial records: Peder 27 October 1912, birth year 1841, Marianne 9 November 1913, birth year 1838. I find them on the 1865 and 1900-telling, but I don't know how to find the names or other information about their parents.

Reply from Vickie: My cousins in Bergen believe that the occupants of this farm Indrekvam referred to in your post - were cousins of my grandfather (relatives of Peder, not Marianne) When my grandfather was born in 1884, Peder and Marianne lived at a place that the Bergen relatives call Haajen (called Bjorndalshaug on the digitalarkivet telling-1900)Naustdal rural district in Sogn and Fjordane county. On the 1865 telling we find Marianne as a maidservant at the farm Vefring Thingnaes, and Peder as a farm hand on the farm Krogenaes yttre. I have been unsuccessful in finding baptism records for Peder and Marianne on the digitalarkivet. Some of the marraige records on the digitalarkivet show parents of the bride and groom - but Peder and Marianne's does not.

The marriage record states that Mariane Simonsdatter was born at Indrekvam. The patronym Simonsdatter means that her father's name was Simon (or Simen), it has nothing to do with her husband's patronym being Simonsen. Having seen the marriage records I would still think that the Simon at Indrekvam was related to Mariane. The marriage records usually contain the fathers of the bride and groom after approx. 1820. Hopefully the original marriage records will reveal them. Maybe someone at the Digitalarkivet discussion forum is willing to do a look up.

Thank you both so much!! I believe you are right. Peder and Mariane named their only daughter Anne Sofie (probably named after Mariane's mother). When I had searched records before I expected the names to match better. I didn't expect Mariane to be "Marie Karine" and Peder Simonsen to be "Peder Andreas Simonsen". I was also searching for info. about Ludvig Botten who my Grandpa lived with and worked for when he arrived in the US, and from the website you gave me I find a brother of Peder, listed as Ludvig Peder Henrik Simonsen with the same date of birth as Ludvig Botten, so I now think they are the same person, my Grandpa's uncle!
