I have a new question. When I am recording their names should I be recording the Austad also. I noticed on geni.com that they use the Austad name a lot where I have been using the Grundesson Heggland (Hegland) Grundyson. I know that Heggland and Austad are probably farms and places in Norway. What do you think?

Different researchers have chosen different methods of recording the farm names and you may get many different answers. Personally I put the farm name in my genealogy database as a name suffix. This means I can still sort/search the database by either given or last name (patronymic) and search by suffix if I so choose. I record each name variation found and keep careful source notes as to WHERE I found that.

Heggland comes of the name Hegg: In English:
Bird Cherry, Hagberry or Mayday tree and is mentioned 1437 as "a Heglande"

Thank you! So I should be keeping track of the names Olav Grundesson Austad instead of just Olav Grundesson?
