Through a long process I have borrowed the subject document, which refers to several Hordaland parishes. Though published fairly recently (1968), the Norwegian used does not seem modern. I do not speak Norwegian but can labor thru the simpler written material such as Klar Tale. Using a Norwegian dictionary and book of grammar, I am mostly frustrated...many bygebok terms are not in the dictionary.

Any ideas? I would really like to read some of the narratives in this bygdebok.

The written language used in the book you refer to is actually very modern, it's called nynorsk; " new norwegian".
(As opposite to the standard written language called "bokmål".)
So you need to use a Norwegian dictionary and book of grammar that handles nynorsk.

Hi

There is an on-line version of both a "Nynorskordbok" and a "Bokmålsordbok".
You can search in both at the same time or select one of them.
