Here in the United States Representative Deb Haaland has been nominated to be Secretary of the Interior. Her extensive native American ancestry (on her mother's side) has entranced the US news media.
But the surname Haaland is Norwegian. Her father's side of the family came from the little island of Kvitsøy, just northwest of Stavanger. Being curious and also having ancestors from that area I decided to track back her Norwegian ancestors.
Bottom line - Deb Haaland is my 7th cousin once removed. We share a common ancestor who was born about 1666 on Karmøy.
