Hey,

So a bit of an odd occurrence. Perhaps you all have an idea of what's going on here. Are these both twins or the same person, or what happened?

Else Marie Eriksen was born on 6 May 1923 in Modum, Buskerud, Norway

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:683J-VJ4F

At Ole Evensen Marigaardseie's Death Notice in 1924, Else Marie was listed, but no Erik Eriksen.

https://www.nb.no/items/9dfb3d2ebcf241f0e09a4c2f2a94c165?page=3&searchText=%22Else%20Marie%22

Ole Evensen, Anne Marie Evensen, Erika (Ole's daughter), and Oskar Eriksen's gravestone show Erik Eriksen as well with the date 6 May 1923 to 03 Mar 1943, same as listed here:

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/433/pc00000004308309

Did Else Marie die? Erik clearly died according to the record and gravestone. But why was he not listed on Ole's death notice? The same birthday, plus that fact, makes me think that Else Marie is Erik, but I have no idea.

Else Marie was also not listed on her father Oskar Eriksen's death notice in 1971, only her brother Arne.

I have paged through the same section of original records that I found Else Marie in but did not find a record for an Erik with parents named Oskar and Maren.

First impression is that it is very unlikely that there is a Eirk born 6 May 1823 in Heggum, Modum, Buskerud. If he was a twin of Else his baptism record would likely be in the same parish book as Else. I assume you have not found a record for his birth in Family Search. You have a Family Search baptism record for Else and Arne but not one in the Tree you posted above so I am assuming that you did not find one for an Erik in Family Search

I also looked at the Klokkerbok for Modum. Here Else is found as Nr. 69. Birth date is still 6 May but the baptism date is 12 August.

So here is a record for Erik Eriksen(Berglund), which seems to fit your Erik from above. As you say he died in 1943.

And in the 1910 Census Maren Erikka Evensen was living on Berglund, Modum.

Well, we aren't able to look at a lot of records that might have something to reveal about Else. Her confirmation record might shed some light but confirmation after 1934 are marked as "privat" in the database.

So far I've been unable to find a newspaper death notice for her grandmother Anne Marie Eriksdtr or Evensen in which she might be mentioned.

Sex reassignment surgery from female to male was first discussed in medical circles about 1938 but it wasn't tried until 1959.

And another weird possibility is that Else Marie died and then they adopted a boy child and just gave him the same birthdate.

Do you have a picture of the family headstone on which they all appear?

The dodfallsprotokol for the grandmother in 1935 is closed and here is the dodfallsprotokol for Ole Evensen #59:
Modum lensmannskontor, SAKO/A-524/H/Ha/Hab/L0004: Dødsfallsprotokoll - Nordre Modum, 1917-1924
Quick link: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/sk10081211020200

Probably the grandmother Anne Marie in the same death database that Erik Eriksen is found:

I think this is the gravestone he is referring to. Hopefully you can click on the link and look at it. Not easy to read.

I apologize. I wrote the thread in a rush. Thank you Anton and Jackie for researching. I found the original record for Else and Arne. I can provide anything else that is needed as I have found most of them. Correct Anton, I was not able to find Erik's baptism record in FamilySearch, Ancestry, or Digitalarkivet. The Link that you posted for Erik Eriksen (Berglund) is the same one that I provided above. The Link you posted for Maren Erika indicates that you would like to see her Ancestry Profile:

Ancestry Profile: https://ibb.co/4gw1k2W

Here is Oskar's newspaper clipping:
https://www.nb.no/items/5097bdae7b5da824e0a10e1f04bfb418?page=5&searchText=%22Oskar%20Eriksen%22

Here is her newspaper clipping. I didn't find the usual newspaper clipping that lists the family.

Here is the link (Ancestry) to the Death Entry for her grandmother Anne Marie Eriksdatter:

#9 Anne Marie Eriksdatter Evensen

Anne's news clipping might be here, but I cannot access it:

A lot of records on Digitalarkivet are locked for me, but you can search
Norway, Death Registers, 1928-1941:
https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/62072/

As for your theories, I appreciate them, I think something along those lines is reasonable. I have looked pretty much everywhere for everything, but couldn't find much myself. That is in particular because I don't have a membership to many of the sites. What I found weird is that Else Marie wasn't on the combined grave, but Erik Eriksen was. You would expect both to be on there if they were two different people. She was listed in 1924 on the death notice of Ole, but perhaps died shortly after.
