Hello!
I am looking for my great grandmother sister, whom I belive has emigrated to USA.
I have found her on a list subscribed in the 1960's where she is supposedly emigrated from Norway in 1883. There are however no records of her, where she went, what ship she was on... So I thought maybe you could help me?

the information about her:
Her name was Johanne Marie Andreasdatter ( Andreasen) She was brought up in Skjeberg on a place called Skyttebraaten ( Skyttebråten). She was born in 1858, and on the list I found her in, she had given her age as 25.
She had several siblings, including my great grandmother.
Johanne Marie was a child born outside of marrige, but I don't know if this is relevant.

Her mother's name was Julie(Juliane Josephine)Andreasdatter ( Jensen) I am sorry .. but she wrote it in many different ways. Her mother was born ca 1837. And she was born in Skjeberg.

Her father's name was Andreas Johansen ( Johannesen).
Skjeberg is in the southeastern part of Norway. And he was born ca 1831.

I don't know if she was married or if she had any children when she left.

The list I found was a transcription of emigrateprotcol, and a list where everybody from Østfold had emigrated.

I strongly think that she really emigrated, because I can't find her in any record here in Norway. And I have tried the net, but so far found nothing.
If you can't help me, I would like to know if there are any other ways to find her.

Best regards
Torunn Cathrine

Try posting your question on the Digitalarkivet (click on the link below) in their debate forum. Lots of people with access to a lot of resources read it and they might be able to find her. Finding her in the US is hard without knowing her destination. Was there anyone else in the family that emigrated to the US? She might have gone to join them. Did the list you saw give the month and day she left? Also you might try finding other people that left at the same time since she might have been traveling with them.
Good Luck Carla

In the churchrecords of her parish, there was a note written the 30th of may 1883 that she had emigrated to America.

I have searched passengerlists at Digitalarkivet, but I am not able to find her.. So if anyone could help me further I would be most glad!!

I have maybe come to the conclusion that this could be her... But I also think that she might have emigrated also. Maybe she returned to Norway. There are at least 17 years, where I can't find her. And I can't find her marriage. Maybe they married overseas?

The reason why I think she emigrated, is the record from the church book. Why would she say that she was about to emigrate to America to her priest, when she didn't?
There are listed children in the 1900 census. But it also says that it might not be their children.

Were there people who traveld back to Norway when they emigrated? I mean is it possible she came back after some time?

Was it common?
And where can I find her...? ;) ( in America.. )
