Does anybody out there have any experience with obtaining logs from the emigrant ships. Are they usually lost, or is the chance of finding them good. If they excist, where are the best places to look for them?

Hei Per Helge

What kind of logs are you looking for? What kind of information are you hoping to find?

I am thinking of the ship's diary, what we in norwegian refer to as loggbok.

I think those will be able for some ships, depending on how the owners handled their archives. Some records has been turned over to public archives, universities or libraries. The Cunard archive and SAL has survived in that way. Other companies did not bother to take care of the old records, or they were lost when the companies ceased. I do not know exactly what records you can find, hopefully some of the other members will know.
