| I'm trying to verify information in my grandfather's journal: He wrote that he sailed from Hoboken, New Jersey to Southampton and on to La Havre in June of 1918 on the Corsican, which he states was a "British ship." I know that almost half of the U.S. troops who fought in World War I sailed to Europe on British ships, but the history of the Corsican here http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=cors2 isn't clear about whether it was carrying U.S. troops at this time. Any information will be greatly appreciated - I'm in the process of transcribing his journal and would love to have this to fill it out. |

Ancestry.com has a digitized records for example UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960. Here is an example for the Corsican in 1918. Threre do not appear to be many passengers listed for June of 1918, actually only three. Mr. Nuessle is listed as a Secretary for the YMCA in Paris.

Ancestry.com also has this listing: All UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960 Results
For 1918 they have listed 494 Passengers, None for June but 148 for July 1, 1918, most of them Servicemen. However the origina manifest shows the destination to be Montreal and Quebec. Here is one example.
