You can read about exactly what questions were asked on the various different censuses in Norway through the years.

Hi Kim !

I see that you searching for info abot your Greatgrandfather Samson. I fount out that my grandfather Christopher (borned 1870) is brother to Samson. By the way.. Andrea Oline that was borned in 1830 died, "new" Andrea Oline was borned in 1833. Funny.. Word isnt big ..

Hi Jarle a map of the places would be a great help Vaagane, Oslandsbotnen an Skortpen as I had not had much luck in trying to find where abouts they are are.
Beside his parents taht is his Mother: Oline Knudsdtr Waagne Norway and Father: Salamon Nielsen do you know who the grand parents are etc. The naming pattern is a little confusing but I think i undertand it. Any Help Appreciated

Hi! On this map you can see Kinn, (where the old church from about year 1150 are placed. Right north of Kinn yoy see Skorpa.
If you zoom in the map at Stongsfjorden, you will find Oslandsbotnen. Vågane ca. 5 km north. It's 160 km south to Bergen.

Yes, acc. to traditional Norwegian naming practices;
Christopher Mathias Salamonsen born on Skorpen, parents Salamon Nielsen Skorpen and Oline Knudsdatter.

No rules without exeption.
I assume Christopher Mathias em. without the parents?

If he had em as a young boy with the parents the names would most likely been for simplicity;
Christopher Mathias Nilelsen, Salamon Nielsen and Oline Nielsen, and your name Kim Nielsen.


Farm Skorpen is located to the island Skorpa outside Florø town, areal; 0,9 km2, in 2001 ca 60 persons lived there.

A curiosity, tourists from Florø on way to the top of the mountain on Skorpa
Skorpa is a mountanous island.

Prgj short for "Prestegjeld" (= parish).

Tyvold is listed as Residence name. (Name of farm)

Elen Absalonsen is the mother (family status "hm" = house mother) of Peder and Samson Salamonsen (family status "s" = son).

"NB" = Nordre Bergenhus (name of county/province -= Sogn og Fjordane).
