Looking for help please researching further details of life of Alexander, brother of Sigvart and Dina (see separate forums on this site) :

- son of Gabriel Gundersen/Hadland and Anne Oline Tollaksdr

- born Stavanger 21 Dec 1862

- 1865 census for Stavanger shows Alexander living with parents and elder brother Gunvald

- merchant marine seaman, Stavanger seaman's roll number 5583. Signed off his ship in Surabaya (Indonesia) in 1881

- 1901 census for Ireland shows Alexander Gabrielsen with wife Mary and 3 children living in Belfast

- 1911 census for Ireland lists Alexander Gabrielson (note spelling change) with wife Mary and 2 children living in Belfast, married since 1887

- Familysearch shows several children born, most dieing shortly after birth. Janett, Mary and David only survivors into adulthood ??

- Alexander works as merchant seaman on vessels out of Belfast, but not found on any crew lists. Awarded UK Merchant Marine Ribbon and Medal in 1919 and 1926 respectively for service in World War 1.

Can find no record of marriage or death.

Grateful for any help in filling in gaps

Hi
Findmypast recently launched a searchable website of 1 million merchant seamen records covering the British Merchant Marine in the 1918-41 period.
There is a CR2 card there listing several voyages in the 1920s for an A. Gabrielson. I cannot give you anymore information because of Findmypast copyright restrictions but I suggest you check the card. I suspect he's the man you are looking for.
best wishes

David, thanks for this info. I am not a subscriber to FMP, but I can access the raw info at the National Archives in Kew. From the Crew List Index Project (CLIP) I have sourced the ship's names from the official numbers for each of the 7 vessels listed on Alexander's record card for the period 1922 -1928. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any crew agreements available at NA Kew or MHA in Canada for any of the years on Alexander's record card.

What is also puzzling is that I cannot find any reference in the Irish records of Alexander's marriage (to Mary Donnelly ?? The 1911 census shows nephew Joseph Donnelly living with them) or his death.
