Followed with interest some posts on gypsy heritage of many Norwegians and prevalence of dark complexioned Norwegians. Roma people (called gypsy, since they were confused for Egyptians, due to their dark complexions), who are originally from India, first appeared in Europe around the 13th and 14th centuries. They were escaping persecution from Muslim conquerors in Northern India (Rajasthan/Punjab area) and moved westwards in several waves. Some found refuge in Norway and Finland where they are called Kale (Black). Linguistic and genitic research proves their origins to be from India. Persons of Roma origin in Europe and other places, generally carry Y chromosomes, common to the Indian sub continent

That is very interesting! Are you familiar with the Oseberg Ship and the two women that they found buried with it? Here is a link to some info on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oseberg_ship
