                      | I have looked some more into the origins of the master carpenter Niels Christian Christensen who moved to Stavanger from Kristiansand after having spent some years in Denmark, and who to all apearances was the father of Susanne Marie Nielsdatter.
Given the reference to his stepfather Hans Fermedahl in the borgerbook entry, this is clearly Niels Christian (age given as 14) living with stepfather, mother Susanne Marie and sister Mette Christine (18) in the 1801 census. So Susanne Marie was named after her father’s mother. This matches the probate records after Christen Nielsen Kiløen, deceased by drowning in 1793:

 Widow Susanne Marie Torjesdatter
Sons Nils Christoffersen (8) and Tobias Christoffersen (5)
Daughters Mette Kjerstine Christoffersen (11) and Rakel Marie (2 ½)

Apparently two of the four children had died in the meantime; Tobias died in 1797 (father's staus of afg means deceased) and this could be Rakel Marie’s burial in 1800, with some distortions.

There is not a complete match between the years of birth for Niels Christian in the census and probate records, but the latter matches perfectly with the following baptism in 1885, indicating that the father, this time under the name of Christen Nielsen Lofthus, came from the farm Lofthus, now inside the city of Lillesand some 25 kms from Kristiansand.

Probably the wedding of the parents of Susanne in 1809 in Kristiansand. Parents are Niels Christian Christiansen and Birthe Christiane Christensdattter.

 1809

is that 3 June or 6 March?

                      | Witnesses Hans Fermedahl and Canoneer Bang (!)
The wedding record says Christensdatter but several baptisms say Jansdatter. Most likely a mistake in the wedding record.

Why 1824? The original post in the thread says 1822, and estimating from the tombstone 1821 is even more probable.

Is there a chance she could have been born in America?

April 1822 in Norway is specified forBertha’s birth in the1900 US census.

Not a lot to pick from. The two problems with using this method is that the Ancestry.com data base is not complete and there are many instances in which the data from the 1900 Census are not correct.

                      | At one of the churches also used by Simen and Bertha is another wife born Osmundsen. Hard to read the witnesses but it may be the parents Osmund Bengsen and Tonette Bengsen.

This calls for reconcilliation. Is this one person twice baptized, or two distinct people? Could the parents have been Erland Iversen Hov and Ingebor Marie Larsdatter, with two churches to satisfy two groups of kin?
