What do the headers mean at the top of the death records starting after the person's name? I'm trying to find Martinus Knudsen who died around 1860 and his wife Petrine Nilsdtr who died around 1844. I believe they died in Gloppen, Sogn Og Fjordane, at least that's where I was trying to look. Thanks for the help!

Hi Tami,
the first 7 colomns read:
  • Entry Number
  • The reported Date of Death
  • Date of Funeral
  • Full name and position of the deceased
  • Age
  • Place of Residence
  • If cause of death was a contageous disease, then which disease, or if cause of death was an accident

The 3 last colomns are used for stillborns:
  • The stated Date of Birth
  • Name of parents
  • When and by whom reported

The link is valid for the churchbooks 1820 - 1876.

There are some variations in the spelling and the Column headings before and after that period, they can be found at the bottom of this page.

Btw; very useful information on that page!

Thank you, Jan Peter, you are always so helpful to me! I've asked this question before, is there a Skarsten city?

Ok, dumb question.......How would I go about searching for death records if I don't know the parish they died in? I've searched for the obvious ones I could find, but either they weren't there or I couldn't read it.

Skarsten is a farmname in Gloppen, Sogn & Fjordane.

(There's also a farm in Davik, Sogn & Fjordane named Skarsten, but since you're refering to Gloppen above, that's probably the farm your'e looking for.)
