Bertel Gundersen´s confirmation record Sunday June 3. 1852 show us that he was born March 3. 1836 in Snertingdal. His marks in Christianity was "Meget godt"- Very good. Bertel was vaccinated Sept. 4. -38

His father "Huusmand"-Cotter Gunder Bertelsen is mentioned in the 1865 census abowe as a widower, but this record give us his mother´s name.
Bertels mother was Marit Thronsdatter, nr 3, top page

Thank you, Einar, Kċre, and Jan Peter.

You've obviously all been hard at work while this side of the planet (New Zealand) was sleeping. I appreciate your help.

It's going to take a while to sort my way through this.

I have one question: Where is Bertel in the 1865 Census? I haven't found him. Is it possible that he was travelling and wasn't recorded?

Thank you.

Pip

Actually I'm on the same side of the planet as you at the moment..., beeing in Melbourne for about a month now...

Yes, I think Bertel must have been left out of teh census, probably because of the travelling..., maybe he stayed at a guest house or something?

I think Jan Peter is right, Bertel Gundersen was temorary working on farm Tĝmmerċsen in Biri before he married Mari Hansdatter in Ringsager 1864, in 1865 he was temporary in Hamar, that´s likely why hi is not listed in the 1865 cenus.

To drop betwen two chairs, a Norwegian saying.

Bertil Gundersen christening March 23.1836 in Svatsum church in Vestre Gausdal, born March 3. 1836, nr 6.
Parents: Gunder Bertelsen og Mari Thronsdr Snertingdal

A new Svatsum chursh was build 1860, picture show the area where the old church was placed.

Hi philippa
It seems that Mari Hansdatter lived on Simenstadeie when she married Bertel and then she moved from Ringsager to Biri Nov. 24. 1864 about one month after the wedding. Likely to farm Tĝmmerċsen where Bertel was emplyed when he married Mari.

This was only temporary, because in the 1865 census she was back in Ringsager on farm Skrĉdderbakken at her parents recidence when Bertel was working on Hamar. Skredder=Tailor-bakke =hill/hillside
Biri and Ringsager are placed on each side of Lake Mjĝsa, Norways largets lake.

"Udflyttede" 1864 to Biri, nr 81
Mari Hansdr Simenstadeie fra? (from?) 53/64 (the number of the farm) 20 1/2 aar Birid.

Just want to point out that my listing of june 4 for the 1865 census indicates that Bertel at that time was at Hamar (med slagt?-I guess not - Prĝysen was not even born!)
Bertels mother by the way was Marit Thronsdatter, not Mari Fransdatter.

You are right about her last name Einar, I am correcting it.

"Huusmandskone" Cotters wife Mari Thronsdatter from Snertingdal age 54 died June 8. 1854, the funeral was June 8. in Svatsum cemetery, nr 42

Thank you Kare, Einar and Jan Peter for the exciting information on Mari and Bertil Gundersen. I have been wondering if Ole(33) and Marte(23) Gundersen from S Odalen, Andreas (31) and Karen(32) Gundersen from Frederikstad and Pietter(41) and Anne(41) Gundersen from Kristiania were Bertils relations. They emigrated on the Hovding in 1872. There were also a number of Hansens aboard who could have been Maris brothers and sisters - I could list them. Bev

I think the correct date for Maria's birth is 1 Dec 1843, chr 17 Dec 1843. See no. 124:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6013&idx_id=6013&uid=ny&idx_side=-118
(There is another Maria, no. 119, born in August - easy mistake.)

Hans STEFFENSEN and Eli MIKKELSDATTER probably had several more children.

I have also found Johanne (b. 10 years after Simen):

Hans STEFFENSEN was born abt 1812.

Am I correct in thinking that Ringsaker/Ringsager christening records for 1811-1813 are not available?
