I have the exact date of departure for a Danish emigrant but do not have the name of the ship because the Danish Emigrant Database does not give the name of the ship if one take a feeder ship first. This emigrant has been found arriving on 19 May 1880 on the Saratoga into the NY port from Havana, Cuba, along with another 11 Danish and several other European immigrants Does anyone know about this type of migration and which ports in Europe and ships went to Havana?
Thanks.

I think I found some info to help answer to my own question re: European routes to Cuba. Using the Hamburg passenger database on Ancestry.com, I put in a first name, such as Jose, and the arrival port of Cuba (Kuba in German). The following three primary routes came up:
1. Departure from Dover, Eng., then stops at Le Havre, France;
Coruna and Vigo, Spain; Cuba, and arrival in Mexico.
2. Departure from Southhampton, Eng., then stops at Le Havre;
Santander and Coruna, Spain; Cuba, Mexico.
3. Le Havre, Coruna, Cuba
I assume the port in Cuba was Havana, but I did not see listed what the port was in Mexico.

These routes were for 1890-1913 because that is what has been name indexed so far. Unfortunately, the immigrant that I am researching apparently came to Cuba in late 1879. I will likley have to wait until more records have been indexed. I tried the handwritten records that go back much earlier, but they can only be broused by alpha first letter of the surname. Plus I did not see any ages given or arrival ports in these records so I don't think a confirmation of a specific person is possible.
