I am currently doing some research on my g-grandmothers family which originated from Steigen in Nordland, Norway. I have found that two of her brothers, Karl Johan Markussen Kvalnes b. 6/6-1863 and Norman Angel Markussen Kvalnes b. 29/7-1865, both emigrated to Dakota.

Norman went in 1884:
Moving list
Police emigration records Trondhjem

Karl went in 1888:
Moving list
Police emigration records Trondhjem

I have no trace of them after emigrating, but it would be fun to find out anything about their history in America, and if they have any descendants. If anyone have access to the US censuses I would apprecate any information that could be passed on to me. I should think maybe they used Markuson, Markusson or Marcuson, Markusson as possible variations of the name. Thanks very much for any help!

There is a Norman Markuson in the 1900 Census, born in July 18??, age 35, married, with 5 children. I have not mastered the technique to post the image, so if you send me your e-mail address, I should be able to send you a copy.

Here is a 1920 census record for a Norman Markussen, which seems to match the age and immigration time.

Norman Markuson married Martha Anderson (b Oct 9, 1867 in Oslo) on December 7, 1890.
Could Herbert be a son of them?

Herbert Markuson
Birth Date: 14 Dec 1891
Death Date: Aug 1981
58072, Valley City, Barnes, North Dakota

Wife Elise Markuson, born ab 1906
Son Lawerence Markuson, born ab 1928

Randie & Rita Markuson lives in 58072, Valley City, ND as of today... might be relatives?
They belong to the Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City.

See also this query at genealogy.com, posted by Normans grand-daughter Mary Ann...
You can find her address and email in the link.

Thanks to you all, it appears to be the right Norman, at least the data matches pretty close. I have tried to e-mail Mary Ann from the link posted to see if she might be a relative

Thanks Les, it was a typo in my forst post, he was born June 6, 1863. I have edited the original post with the correct year.

A possibility for Karl Johan? His immigration year is listed as 1888...

1910 census for Ransom county, North Dakota:
Carl J Markuson, b 1865
Anna Markuson, b 1886
Agnes C Markuson, b 1907
Haakon M Markuson, b 1909

1920 census for Ransom county, North Dakota:
Carl Markuson, b 1865
Anna Markuson, b 1888
Agnesa Markuson, b 1908
Hoeand Markuson, b 1910
Stella Markuson, b 1916
Jenney Markuson, b 1917
Benhard Markuson, b 1919

Not sure if Stella is a part of the family... I haven't seen the original image, but she was not indexed with parents...

I checked the image of the 1920 - Stella is listed as a foster daughter. The wife Anna and all the children in the household were born in N.D. Carl is employed as a farmer.
The eldest son who was 'Haakon' in the 1910 census appears as 'Hacond' in the 1920 (by my own viewing).
