okay, i need information about a great grandmother of mines whos mom migrated to Montana in 1800s. i need either, ship records with names of people who migrated to Montana by ship in the 1800s, or the mother of Nora Richem's birth or death records. i am trying to track down any family that i have maybe livinng in Norway, so if you can't find anything else, anyone with the last name "Richem" in Norway would be lovely.

thanks to all who help.

My emial is...

you will not find any person with the last name "Richem" in Norway.
Since it obviously is an american spelling for Rikheim, that's a better chance, see the white pages.
Searching for the mom of your great grandmothers migration is very difficult since, if I read your posting right, we have not got her name or a suggested year/decade when she was living.

Difficult, but not impossible...
Could it be this people?

Census 1920 for Teton, Montana:
Nels Richens, born 1864 in Norway, imm. 1888
Anna Richens, born 1866 in Norway, imm. 1888
Children:
Oscar Richens, born 1896 in Minnesota
Nora Richens, born 1900 in Minnesota
John Richens, born 1902 in Minnesota

Census 1910 for Teton, Montana:
Nels Recham, born 1864 in Norway, imm. 1898 (!)
Anna Recham, born 1866 in Norway
Children:
Oscar Recham, born 1896 in Minnesota
Josephine M Recham, born 1897 in Minnesota
Norah Recham, born 1899 in Minnesota
John Recham, born 1902 in Minnesota

Census 1900 for Moscow Township, Freeborn, Minnesota:
Nils Rikhern, born Aug 1863 in Norway, imm 1888
Anna Rikhern, born Dec 1866 in Norway, imm 1894, married 1894, 4 children
Children:
Oskar C Rikhern, born Aug 1895 in Minnesota
Josephina Rikhern, born March(?) 1897 in Minnesota
Nora Rikhern, born Feb 1898 in Minnesota

Also in the household is one Ole Rikhern, born June 1866, imm 1883. Brother to Nils.

Emigration from Bergen on May 16th, 1888:
Nils Johannessen Rikheim (25), from Lærdal, Sogn & Fjordane
Nils Johannessen Rikheim is born 07 Aug 1863 on the Rikheim farm in Lærdal.
Parents Johannes Nilssen Rikheim & Anna Olsdatter
They also have a son Ole born 06 Jun 1866 and a daughter Anne born 30 Jun 1860.
One "Nils Ritchiner" arrived Quebec on June 5th, 1888 on the ship Siberian, sailing from Liverpool. "Julius Hess" (18) and "Anna Flohang" (28) are on the same ship, so I believe "Nils Ritchiner" is Nils Johannessen Rikheim.

A possibility for his wife:
Anna Ovesdatter Kvamme (29),from Lærdal, Sogn & Fjordane, emigrating from Bergen on Oct 15th, 1894.
Anna Ovesdatter is born on the Voldo farm in Lærdal on 24 Dec 1865.
Parents Ove Trondsen Voldo & Kari Knutsdatter.

At Ellis Island, she is listed as Anna Ovanime (29), but looking at the original image, it reads Anna Kvamme. She arrived New York on Nov 1st, 1894 on the ship "Island". Her destination was Freeborn, Minn.

I believe "Anna Ovanime" = Anna Ovesdatter Kvamme, because we find several of the same names on both manifests. From Ellis Island, Ship Island, arrving Nov 1st, 1894:
0223. Larsin, Elisabeth F 21y Norway
0224. Isaksen, Antonette F 30y Norway
0225. Ovanime, Anna F 29y Norway
0226. Andersen, Anna F 27y Norway
0227. Johannesen, Caroline F 35y Norway
0228. Olsen, Lina F 34y Norway
0229. Iversen, Martha F 24y Norway
0230. Pedersen, Halvor M 21y Norway
0231. Tellefsdatter, Anne F 21y Norway
0232. Mortensen, Kathinka F 21y Norway

I think Anna Ovesdatter Kvamme is the mother of Nora Richem...

Thanks Jackie! :)

It sure looks like Anna Ovesdatter Kvamme in the Minnesota database!

Hard to find Norwegian relatives of these people, at least close ones.

Nils had actually 5 siblings, but they all emigrated to America:
Kisti Johannesdatter Rikheim b.02 Sep 1852, emigrated 14 May 1877 with husband Ole Olsen Raa b. 1848 and daughter Kirsti b.1874.
Kari Johannesdatter Rikheim b.11 Dec 1854, emigrated 08 May 1879 with husband Haagen Olssen Ljøsno/Lysne b.1850 and son Ole b.1877.
Mari Johannesdatter Rikheim b.12 Oct 1857, emigrated 16 Apr 1884.
Anna Johannesdatter Rikheim b.30 Jun 1860, emigrated 16 Apr 1884.
Nils Johannessen Rikheim b.07 Aug 1863, emigrated 16 May 1888.
Ole Johannessen Rikheim b.06 Jun 1866, emigrated 06 May 1883.

Here is Nils and the siblings in census-1865.

Anna Ovesdatter Kvamme had a twin named Ingeborg Ovesdatter Øvre Kvame, who moved to Nedre Eiker in March 1893. Not found her since...

Hi,

Laerdal in Sogn!

This from the Rowberg Biographical file, published in the Decorah Posten 8 Dec 1949:

"Mrs.

Some obviously incorrect information since she didn't come direct from Norway to Choteau county, Montana but a revelation about the brother...

And the brother's obit, also published in the Decorah Posten on April 3, 1954, also Rowberg Biographical file:

"Dødsfald. Peter O. Nasse, som i over 50 aar hadde bodd i Fairfield Distriket, døde siste Uge i et Hospital i Great Falls. Han var født den 27de Juni 1865 i Norge. Som ung Mand kom han til Amerika og bosatte sig i Iowa hvor had blev gift før han flyttet til Montana omkring Aarhundreskiftet. Han tog Homestead seks mill nordøst for Fairfield. Mrs. Nasse døde for to aar siden. Han overleves av flere Niecer of Nevøer i Montana, Minnesota og Iowa."

Norske i Montana: Volume 2 Central core counties compiled by Richard Fretheim, pub 2003 by Park Genealogical Books, page 208 cites this regarding Peter Nasse:

member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairfield, Montana

from page 472 of Boots and Shovels, the Greenfield Irrigation District "Peter O. (?) b. Bergen Nor 1865 arr Fairfield 1902 d. 1954 mar Mathilda Hanson b Iowa 1870 d 1952"

also resident of Teton twp, Choteau county 1900, 1910, 1920; em 1885, nat. 1891; b. Jun 1865; Mathilda b. Jun 1871

Good research again, Jackie! The final proof!

Census-1865

Born 26 Jul 1863, Knud Ovesen, parents Ove Throndsen Eri & Kari Knudsdatter Hillestad. His 2nd, her 1st illegitimate child.
Born 24 Dec 1865, Ingeborg Ovesdatter, parents Ove Trondsen Voldo & Kari Knutsdatter
Born 24 Dec 1865, Anna Ovesdatter, parents Ove Trondsen Voldo & Kari Knutsdatter
Born 02 Jul 1868, Jens Ovesen, parents Ove Throndsen Nese and Kari Knutsdatter

Peder was Anna's half-brother:
Born 27 Jun 1865, Peder Ovesen, parents Ove Throndsen Eri and Ingeleif Pedersdatter Lysne. Her 3rd illegitimate child.
It doesn't say anything about Ove Throndsen... it must have been his 3rd illegitimate child as well. Ove must have been the local Casanova in Lærdal... :)
Census-1865

Btw; Ove married Kari just one month prior to Ingeleif giving birth to his son Peder. His marriage with Kari Knutsdatter was on 27 May 1865.

Peder Ovesen Nese from Lærdal emigrated 12 Apr 1885. Listed as 23, but should be 20...?
