Hi Michele.
I am not related to Otilie or other members of this family.
I found this family intersting, lots of information exist online.
Most of the ancestors seems to orginate from either clergy or officers.

Hi Michele,
the Mowat name is not Norwegian but Scottish, the origin seems to be from Normandy in France.

Andrew (Anders) Mowat from Balquholly in Scotland settled down in Norway and became Admiral in the navy, see down page here

Information is confirmed with the Norwegian lexicon "Store Norske Leksikon", here, a brief summary;
Andrew Mowat (1530-1606) settled on farm Hovland in Tysnes as merchant and navy officer, he married Else (1550-1622), daughter to Admiral Christopher Rustung.

His son Axel born on Hovland 1592, d. Jan. 27. 1661 was one of king Christan 4. trusted Admirals and founder of Rosendal Baroni

A family tree confirming the information provided here

I´ve searced for a connection between Andrew Mowat and Joseph Mowat but have not been able to find it so fare, still lots (most) of info is not online.
