I am looking for information on Ole Ranes who emmigrated to America in 1921. I think he comes from the Akershus fluke. His parents names were Marit and Sivert. He was born Aug. 15, 1900. The family would like info on family, his ancestors, etc. Thank you for any help.

I have an interesting Ranes family for you from Surnadal Møre & Romsdal county on farm Follerøli (Engellien);

Farm worker Sivert O. (Olsen) Ranes "Fl" lodger and a relative to the farmowners and wife Maret Johnsdatter, 4 children, but this Ole (Sivertsen) Ranes was born 1896, see here

Perhaps a 2. Ole was born 1900?

Yes, he is from Ranes in Surnadal, Møre og Romsdal, see chr. record #8, born 15-Aug 1897

Ole S. Ranes (24) arrived New York on Jun 28, 1921, on The Stavangerfjord.

His destination was brother-in-law Lars Olsen Haandstad in Bricelyn, MN. Closest relative was mother Marit Ranes in Skeid, Nordmøre.

It must have been a typo error on ole's birth year to be 1900. Ancestry.com family trees have him born 1896.

Carol,
As per the newspaper write-up, posted on Ancestry.com, Ole married a Selma Molskness. Her last name would be spelled in Norway as Mølsknæs, which is a farm name. The only county in Norway with that farm name is Nord-Trondelag.

Per my perusal of what is on line.

Most likely Oles mother, Marit Johnsdatter, with parents in 1865.
She was confirmated 1879, see #59 - her birth date is given as Dec 9 1863.

Her parents Jon Olsen and Gjertrud Arntsdatter were married March 17 1861, see #1.
John Olsen was born and bapt in Jan 1830, see the 8th record from bottom. His parents were Ole Johnsen, Moen and Marith Johnsdatter.
Gjertrud Arntsdatter was born Jan 23 1828, see #6, her parents were Arnt Sivertsen, Bolnæs and Marit Nielsdatter.

parents Bendigt Syversen, Mauset and Anne Olsdatter.
I doubt that they were Gjertru Sivertsdatters parents, if they were why doesn't Gjertru use Bendigstdatter?

According to the marriage record, see
#7 Gjertrus father should be Sivert Sivertsen.
The bapt. record is
#11, parents Sivert Sivertsen, Mauset and Maret Endresdatter.

Thanks so much for the information on this topic. Can anyone find me the passenger list for the "Stavangerfjord" showing Ole as a passenger? I know the family would like that.

Below is the web site form for Ellis Island. You will have to join the the web site, which is free. Fill out Ole S Ranes, The ship Stavangerfjord, Year of arrival 1921, Month June, Day 21, and it should bring you a results page. Click on view manifest, and it will then ask you to join.
