My grandmother was Olga Bruget who lived in South Dakota, USA. I know that her family lived in Brottum Norway. We are visiting Norway in August and would love to connect to any relatives or to see where they came from . I have an extensive history of the family. My great great grandfather was Jorgen Simensen Bruget , 1836-1916 who emigrated in the 1860's or 1870's. Thanks

Hi.
I believe that both Brøttum and Bruget are farms in Ringsaker

Brøttum and Bruget.
This is most likeky Jørgen Simonsen, leaseholder and schoolteacher, on farm Almsveen in Brøttum 1865 married to Oline Christiansdatter with two sons, Simen and Christian.

Perhaps this is correct Olga.

Olga Bruget born i S. Dakota 1892.
Parents: Christian Bruget and Pauline Sathe.
We have Christian Jørgensen on Brøttum age 3 in the 1865 census above, perhaps he changed lastname to Bruget in USA, see here.

Thanks you so much for the quick response. This is the correct family. I also know that there is a connection to the Nordbruget farm in the Brottum parish in the providence of Hedemarken. Fredrik Rasmussen Nordbruget and Siri Evensdtr Tokstad were married in 1824. They had one son Rasmus. Fredrik died early in 1833 and Siri married Simen Jorgensen Ulven of Brottum who were the parents of Jorgen (1836) and Fredrik. Jorgen came to the U.S. Fredrik(1833) remained in Norway and purchased the Bardseng farm in Faberg. So there were two farms connected to this family. I am wondering if you know the location of the farms. I am also wondering about the location of a parish church they would have been in and if there is a cemetery connected. Thanks
Joan

Brøttum church next to Brøttum in the map ab. 3. miles west from Nordbruket so Brøttum church is correct.

The distance between Messenlivegen 1072 [Botshaugen] and Brukrovegen 313 [Midtbruket] is 10 mins by car.

A couriosity since you mentioned Fredrik Rasmussen and his son Rasmus (Fredriksen)

Rasmus Fredriksen Bruget was mentioned first of the godparents when Christian was christened August 28. 1864, see right page (godparents) for #116

Thanks so much. I am wondering where the Almsveen farm is then. Can you locate this in relationship to these others as well.
