I'm looking for any information regarding a Peter Everson and his son Oliver Everson. Peter was born in Norway in 1840 and he was married to a women with the surname Robeck. They had a son named Oliver Everson DOB: 1860. Oliver arrived in the united states in 1886. I was told that he moved to England to be a sea captain. He then moved to the USA and was also a sea captain. I was also told that he worked for the Robert Dollar lines. I can't really find too much information about either of them because my family didn't keep any records.

Oliver was my great grandfather who married my great grandmother Amanda Johnson in the USA. He passed away in 1924. This is all the information that I have. His surname could have been spelled different in Norwegian for all I know. There is some information on Ancestry.com about him but not much.

Thanks,

Nancy

From Seatlle Daily Times, Sat 7 Dec 1901, pg 33:
"Hilda Olive Amanda, the young daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Oliver Everson was buried Thanksgiving Day."

If the Oliver Everson who died in Washington in 1924 is yours you can request an free obituary lookup at the Washington State Library Ask-a-Librarian site. Takes about 6-8 weeks but they will send a PDF if an obit is found.

Follow the directions here:

In the 1880 Census for Peter Eversen, there is a son Paul listed. I wonder if you have ever tried to trace Paul. When you click on Paul in the Ancestry.com, it leads you to some information on a Paul Martin Iverson. Leading me to wonder if Peter's name could have been rendered as Iverson instead of the Eversen he used.

Here is Paul M Iversen in 1900

1900 United States Federal Census
Name: Paul M Iverson
Age: 27
Birth Date: Dec 1872
Birthplace: Illinois
Home in 1900: Chicago Ward 16, Cook, Illinois
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relation to Head of House: Head
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Sena C Iverson
Marriage Year: 1896
Years Married: 4
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Occupation:
Household Members:
Name Age
Paul M Iverson 27
Sena C Iverson 26
Paul E Iverson 2
Lambert Iverson 10/12

Wow thank you all for all of this information. I saw some of the information on ancestry about Peter, but I was not sure if this was the same person. Someone added Paul Everson to my family tree as him being Peter's son and I could not verify if that was correct or not. I have posted so many questions on ancestry regarding the Everson family. How do I go about finding where in Norway did Peter and Oliver come from, and what was my great great grandmother's name? All that is listed in ancestry is her last name as being Robeck.

Thanks,

Nancy

Well right now we are just throwing things on the wall to see if one of them will lead us to the area in Norway where Peter and Paul orginated from. Thus the question about the last name perhaps being Iverson and thus the father being named Iver and not Ever. Nothing magic now just grinding the data sources to see if a clue to thier orgin pops up.

What evidence do you have that connects the Peter Everson from Chicago to Oliver Everson of Seatlle. I know that there is one record in Ancestry. com that a Peter Everson lived in Seatlle, but is there other evidence as well.

I wish my family kept records. What happened is that my grandfather Iver passed away in the 1940's and my grandmother Pearl remarried and went on with her life. The same as my mother and her siblings. I finally got in touch with my 2nd cousin Gloria who is my grandfather Iver's niece. Unfortunately she doesn't have much information either other than her grandfather Oliver being a sea captain on the west coast which I already knew that information.

Thanks for all your help.

Nancy

Robeck could be a farm name adapted for use as a surname. Various spellings: Røbæk is the most common seen with other sorts of variations. Her first name would be useful.

There was an unclaimed letter for Oliver Everson in San Francisco PO, list published on 1 Apr 1889 in the Daily Alta California paper.

Typically, in Norway, if your father's first name was Peter /Peder you would be Pederson / Peterson if male or Pedersdatter / Petersdatter if female.

Interesting that one of his sons was name Ivar. In my district Iver is often pronounced as Evar rather than the usual in US as eye-ver, which confusion might lead the name to be rendered as Ever.
