I need help to find out what happend to my grandfather after he left Christiansund Norway
and emigrated to Amerika.
I found his name in Philadephia Passenger list 1800-1945, arrival date 25. April 1906.
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England. Ship name : Haverford. Port of arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Last resident, Christiansund (Kristiansund) Norway. He was married and left
His wife Beret Anna Lonning ( born Berntsen) and to children. My grandmother was also pregnant with my mother, born 7. July 1906.. He never returned. Where did he settle after arriving Philadelphia? All information ends at port Philadelphia. I have searched Familesearch, Ancestry, Find a Grave without any track. Also Sosial Securiy Death index. I
appreciate any help. Best regard Harald Lonning

Hei Harald,

A couple of questions...

Did you search the big search engines for him as Erik Hanson in addition to Erik Lonning?

Did Erik have any other relatives siblings, aunts & uncles, or cousins who were already in America?

Is it your Erik Lønning who is said to have been born 1879 and died 1918, per Ancestry.com family tree?

It is helpful to say his parents' names. These should appear (or might appear) on US military records, marriage record, death record, obituary, and will help to identify "your" Erik as the correct man.

I guess this is your Erik, below?

1910 Norway Census, Kristiansund kjøpstad
Erik Lønning born 09.05.1879 in Kristiansund. Jernbanearbeider. Merknader: utgaar. Overstreka. Antatt oppholdssted: Amerika, 4 aar borte
Brit Lønning 1878
Hans Lønning 1902
Any Lønning 1904
Elen Lønning 1906

I see in the discussion that Jane provided the link to that Erik had a job in "Hobocken". There are 2 Hoboken in America one in Hudson county, New Jersey (closest to Philadelphia) and another in Brantley county, Georgia. There is also a Hobucken in Pamlico county, North Carolina.

You may want to contact and ask a favor from the Møre og Romsdalslag's genealogist. Email is here:

http://www.moreogromsdallag.org/contacts.htm

The Lag has Årbok for 1917 and 1920 which might contain information about Erik.

Here is a link to the Chronicling America free online newspaper site. New material is being added all the time. The site covers US newspapers from 1836- 1922. Might be worth a look:
