I'm looking for clues about Andreas Holte, (b. 1855 possibly son of Nils) who claimed to be from Strand, Rogaland, Norway. I have looked into the digitalized archives for the parish Strand and also the census, but cannot find anyone by that name. He stated that he migrated to the US in 1879. There isn't any sign of him on the passenger lists for immigration either. He settled in Ashland, Wisconsin. Can anyone relate him to your Holte research or give me clues to where I can search further?

Here is Andrew Holt in Ashland Wisconsin in 1900:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMVY-3FG

The census says he came in 1879. If so this is the closest in age to be yours in 1880 census with the name Holt. Don't know for certain of course, yet:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MNHK-DSY

It seems less likely since Jan's find below. Here is an Andrew Nilson b. 1855 in Menomie in 1880:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MN4X-Y6C

Andrew is in FAG:

I don't find him in Strand, Rogaland, but I found an interesting person in Tyristrand, Buskerud. An ancestry.com record says that father Nels Holte was from Modum. Modum is in the same area as Tyristrand.

Could it be this guy?
Census-1865
Parents: Nils Gundersen & Marie Christiansdatter Christophersdatter
Farm: Holte
Subparish: Tyristrand
Parish: Hole
County: Buskerud

Born: 19 Jan 1855, see #26 Andreas Nilsen
Source: Buskerud county, Hole, Parish register (official) nr. I 6 (1852-1872), Birth and baptism records men 1855, page 17.

Emigration from Oslo to Menomonee Wisc. on 09 May 1879
Listed as married, but the parish record list him as single, see #19, right page.
Source: Buskerud county, Tyristrand in Hole, Parish register (official) nr. II 1 (1878-1891), Emigration records 1876-1879, page 144.

Looking at the original manifest for the arrival posted above by Jan Peter, it reads Andrers Nilsen 24 (difficult to read so the Hutson is probably a poor transcripton). . The people below him are listed as Chritiane do, 47, Andrine do 22 and Carl Johan.3.

It would be interesting to find out if the 3 ppl emigrating together wih Andreas Nilsen is family, and if they live close to Andrew Holte in the US.
Christine Nilsen 47
Andrine Nilsen 22
Carl Johan Nilsen 3

"Carl Johan Nilsen, 3 y.o." above is Carl Johan Vilhelmsen, illegitimate son of Andrine. See emigration #2 (bottom left page)
#6, Karl Johan, born 10 Mar 1876
Parents: Wilhelm Gulliksen, ... & Andrine Jensdatter, ...rud

Andrine seems to be a Jensdatter.

Yes, seems to be the right family.
Andrine Nilsen (22) = Andrine Jensdatter, Carl Johan (3) is her son, and Christine (47) is probably her mother Kristine Andersdatter.
Based of their names, they do not seem to be of close family to Andreas Nilsen Holte from the same area.

I think they were just neighbours. Stigsrud and Braaten are neighbouring farms to Holte.
And borders have changed. The farm Holte are today located in Ringerike municipality, Buskerud.

Her parents: Kristoffer Hansen Kjernet (1798-) & Gunhild Amundsdatter Aasterud (1795-)

Andreas Nilsen, 1855 Andrew Holte in Ashland, Wisconsin?

Anton Nilsen, 1859

Bjørn Holthe has a webpage on geni.com with this family, where he has a picture of Andreas' younger brother Ole. Any resemblance to Andrew Holte?

The origin of the name Holte;
Nils Gundersen and Maria Kristoffersdatter Aasterud settled down on farm Holte after they married in 1842, a sub farm under Aasterud.

Source, a discussion/conclusion in Norwegian reg. this family, info from "Modums Historie" Volum V p 161-62 link

Wow! YOU all are great! I am going to take all these leads and work through them. The photo shown IS the same photo the family has. It makes sense that they headed to Menomonie and would end up in Ashland. I had found the US census data on them. Yes, they had 2 daughters in Ashland and one of them would have appeared in the 1895 Census.

Thank you to everyone!
