Christian Severen Pedersen was born in 1843 in Brevik, Telemark. He began a sailing career aboard a barque "Witch" in , I believe, 1858, which plied between UK, Marseille and Barcelona as a "cabin boy". In 1864 he sailed from London Victoria to Lytellton, Christchurch New Zealand. I have found one ship which could have been the right one, called the "Glenmark" which sailed from London in October 1864 arriving in Christchurch in January 1865. I cannot find a crew list for this ship to confirm this. I am trying to trace through an account I have of his life and keep looking for items like this which would confirm his journeys. He settled in Liverpool for almost 20 years, travelling on transatlantic ships, and finally emigrated to Australia with his family in 1892, where he eventually retired. I would love to know of any details which could confirm any aspects of his sailing career.

The parish records for Brevik does not have a boy by that name 1842 - 1844.
Where does this information come from?

Ancestry.com, a subscription site has many entries for a Christian Pedersen bron abt 1843 sailing from Liverpool. Here is one example, although the transcribed record lists his birth place as Norwich, that is probably a mistake as when you look at the original record it clearly reads Norway.

Christan Pedersen
Name: Christan Pedersen
Age: 45
Birth Year: 1843
Birth Place: Norwich
Event Date: 1888
Port of Registry: Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Ship Name: Arizona
Official Number: 15414
Reference Number: 387CRE/71in the Liverpool, England, Crew Lists 1861-1919

Here is another one that more closely releates to your man.

Christian Pedersen
in the Liverpool, England, Crew Lists 1861-1919
Name: Christian Pedersen
Age: 43
Birth Year: 1843
Birth Place: Brevig Norway
Event Date: 14 May 1886

There are 32 of these records on the Ancestry.com web site. About 22 of them on the Arizona and 9 on the Wisconsin and 1 on the Montana.

Anders Christian Pedersen was confirmated in April 1858, see #3.
He was then ready to go to sea, his father was also a seaman - he was a first mate when Anders Christian was born.
