Dina Nelson (Tina Tofte married name) is listed as being born Oct 1869 and arrived 1869 in the 1900 US Census. That would indicate she came with adults and that she was very young. I have seen enough US Census records for the families of Ole Thorsen to doubt that she lived with them much before the 1880 Census.

Children to Torbjørn Tollaksson (1827-), m. 1854 Anne Oline Torsteinsdr Vik (1832-), Nedre Tofte, Fjelberg, Hordaland:

Herborg Marie, 15 Aug 1871
Marte Kristine, 19 Jul 1873, d. 1873
Marta Tjærandine, 18 Jan 1877

I wonder what the origin for the HoyKy name is? Haakon seems plausible. I also noticed that Hugne is a common name in Fjelberg.

Census-1900 for Pilot Township Herscher vill., Kankakee, Illinois, has Haskey Boyd (29) [born Jul 1871] as Adopted son by Joseph A Boyd & Sarah Boyd.
Census-1880 for Pilot, Kankakee, Illinois, has Hocke Nelson (8) as "other" to Joseph A Boyd & Sarah Boyd.
The marriage record for HoyKy Boyd shows him as born abt 1875 in Ford County, Ill.

Possibly Haakon Nilsen, born July 1872-1875, Ford, Ill.?
Census-1870 does not show any likely parents named Nelson in Ford, Ill.

Ref:
[lyndal40]
Hocke Nelson Boyd is listed in a tree as born July 15, 1871 Newark, Kendall, Illinois.
Ida Nelson Boyd is listed in a tree as born March 15, 1874 in Herscher, Illinois. Herscher is a village in Kankakee County.

3 possibilities for parents in census-1870, Newark:
Nelse Nelson & Anna, Newark, Kendall, Illinois
Manse Nelson & Sarah, Newark, Kendall, Illinois
Iver Nelson & Sarah, Newark, Kendall, Illinois

Also in Kendall:
Toleff Nelson & Osse, city, Kendall, Illinois
Oliver Nelson & Martha, city, Kendall, Illinois
Lewis Nelson & Estenie, city, Kendall, Illinois

From norwayheritage passenger database, here is an 8 month old Dina [Nielsdatter] from Hadeland who is leaving in 1868:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=1198&ps=90938

She would be from a distance from Vestlandet and assuming she is related to the 2 adults just before her.

I believe she has been identified below, accounted for in 1880 US census.

Jonette Bertine Nilsdatter Hansvig age 1:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=1266&ps=55001

Karine Nilsdatter 3/4 year from Etne:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=1185&ps=56658

She is #8:
SAB, Etne Sokneprestembete, H/Haa: Ministerialbok nr. A 9, 1862-1878, s. 41
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061221620339
__________________________________________
Another possible long shot #56, birthdate does not match US records
SAB, Etne Sokneprestembete, H/Haa: Ministerialbok nr. A 9, 1862-1878, s. 39
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061221620337

But she has a brother named Haaken # 19:
SAB, Etne Sokneprestembete, H/Hab: Klokkerbok nr. A 3, 1863-1873, s. 25
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070503650660

Jackie, if we believe Tina(Tena,Thine,Dina) was a)born in Norway b)born in Etna(Etne)area c)born in 1868-1870 d)immig at abt age 1 e) her birth name was Nelson(Nilsdattr) then your search should have found her. Could you find out if there was any Boyd travel during this time frame?

I wonder if this could be Dina Nielsdatter from Hadeland in census-1880 for Highland, Iowa, Wisconsin?
The christening record shows Dina born 28 Apr 1867 at Egge farm in Gran, Oppland.
Gran Hadeland in Oppland is very far from the Skånevik/Fjelberg/Etne area in Hordaland.

I haven't seen any connection as to why they should have changed their lastname to Hilden, but interesting enough, there is a Hilden farm in Gran, Oppland, just south of Egge.

Not necessarily. No immigration list is 100% comprehensive. There is more than one Etne in Norway. There is also Etnedal, perhaps she is from there. And if she left through Stavanger, you are out of luck, list there was destroyed. We often overlook the passenger lists right on this site, its a search engine on the main page.

I don't think the real Tena/Dina spent any time in Wisconsin, she seemed to be firmly embedded in Illinois

Ok experts, with this deluge of information can i at least conclude that Tena/Dina was adopted and Joe Boyd and Siri Thorson are NOT my ancestors? Is the Nelson/Nilsen lead with the 5 Nelson children living with Joe and Sarah the best explanation of who Tena was? The Nelson farm was across the street from the Boyd farm.
