I am trying to help a friend/relative through marriage, solve the puzzle of her great-grandmother, Othelie Marie Olsen Rønne, and grandmother, Margot Olsen Rønne. Margot was born 30 Nov 1895, Ørlandet, Norway. I believe Margot's parents were Andreas Olsen(?) (b 6 Oct 1862) and Othelie Marie Olsen (b 10 Aug 1858, Rogaland, Norway). Othelie arrive in Boston on 10 August 1905 and married my great-grandfather, Anton Rønne, on 18 Sept 1905. Margot Olsen Rønne arrives in Halifax, Nova Scotia in April 1907 wither two older brothers Ole and John. The 1910 US Census has Margot and Ole living with Anton and Marie Rønne in Thief Lake Minnesota.

I have difficulties using the Digitalarkivet. I believe Othelie Marie's parents were Andreas Olsen and Marie Beathe Nicolaisdotter Tidblad. I also think Othelie Marie may have both legitimate and illegitimate siblings, but I have been unable to track them down.

My friend/relative indicates her great-grandmother, Othelie Marie was married to one "Andrew Olsen". Is it possible Othelie Marie's spouse had the same name as her father, Andreas Olsen? Could there be a connection between the two "Andreas/Andrew Olsens"?

I know Othelie Marie had children Ole, John and Margot and possibly Anna and Ryborg. Are these children all legitimate with the father Andreas Olsen? If not, who are the other fathers? Are there more siblings?

As I indicated before, I have trouble with the Digitalarkivet and I am not certain what I have found is correct, or, not.

Any assistance is greatly appreciate.

Tom

Perhaps Margot as a foster child in the 1900 Norwegian Census

1900

Her baptism record is number 14.

#14

Her father is Peter Andreas Olsen and her mother is Otilie Marie Andreasdatter.

The mother Otillie Marie Andreasdatter is living as a widow on Røine in the1900 Census.

1900

Thank you lyndal40. When I view and enlarge the the birth record for Margot, it appears Margot's father is named Peter Andreas Olsen. Does this seem correct? Since the 1900 Census shows Otilie as being widowed, is there any way of knowing when Andreas/Peter Andreas Olsen died? I have had no luck searching the digital archive.....Also, when a mother is widowed, is it common to place her children in foster care?

Correction made on name above. The family seems to be quite scattered by 1900. Here is likely Ryborg also as a foster chid in the 1900 Census.

1900

Baptism record for Ryborg, same parents as Margot

A Norway Heritage topic back in 2011 might shed some light on the subject

Parents of Othelie Maria born in 1858 are Andreas Olsen and Marie Beathe Nicolasdatter

Parents of Margot born in 1895 are Peter Andreas Olsen and Otille Marie Andreasdatter.

So the answer is the names of the fathers are not exactly the same. Secondly are they related , not easy to figure that out but probably not.

Perhaps the brother John in the 1900 Norwegian Census. Also a foster child.

This family moved around the west coast of Norway a lot, so determining when and where Peter Andreas and Otilie Marie Andersdatter were married is a little hard to find. However here is the baptism record for their second child Ove Andreas born in 1886 in Ørland. There seems to be no reason not to assume that they were the parents of all of the children, since the records we have found go from 1886 for Ove Andeas to 1896 for Margot.

Here is the baptism record for Ove Andreas number 26.

lyndal40 and ToreL, the two of you are the most wonderful researchers! Thank you so much! I have tried using The Digital Archive with little success since it was changed a while ago. With your research and some persistence on my part, I believe I should be able to put together a very good family history.
