Hi

In december 1889 it was assumed that Kittil Herbrandsen was dead.
According to an article in a newspaper he left his wife Live Kirstine and children in 1864 and travelled to America. Since then no-one had heard from him.
I have been asked to search for him in US, but have not been able to find him. Nor have I found his emigration.
His name might have changed so much that it is impossible to recognize him.

He was born in Rollag 12. nov. 1809, right page:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070315620373

He was married to Live Kirstine 4. july 1833, no 18:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20051111010387

I hope someone here are able to "track him down"!

The newspaper article for those who read norwegian:

Any information on relatives or friends that he may have gone to be with or near when he emigrated. Any guess as to where in America where he might have wanted to settle?

Hi

As I have understood it from oral sources they had no idea where he went.
The family he left behind in Norway did not hear from him after he left in 1864 according to the article. The article is a sort of APB urging Kittil to get in touch or anyone who might know where he is to tell, if not Kittil will be declared for dead.

His son Olaus born 25 may 1847 emigrated to US. Here in Portage, Wisconsin 1920: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFVM-47G

I have not found his emigration either, but since they had to issue an APB for Kittel in 1889 I suppose his son did not know where his father was either.

Hi

This is the family of Kittil.
Those who asked me for help know about the decendants and ancestors of Kittil.
But they don't know what happened to him after he left his family!

When Live Kirstine died it is written in the "dødsfall-protokoll" (probate register?) that Kittil had left for America about 20 years ago.

So looking for Kittilin US is what they and I need help to do.

Looking for information in Norway is to see if there might be any other name, such as a farm name that Kittel might be known as in US...

Hi

Yes, I know.

This family moved around a bit.
When Kittil left they lived at a cotters place called Ullsstadplass (Ulvstadplass) in Lyngdal, Flesberg.

I have not found clues in Norway, but I know many here are much better detectives than I am...

Olaus is a minister of gospel but maybe not Norwegian Lutheran since he isn't in Norske Luthereske Prester i Amerika. Apparently he is Congregational, he is mentioned as having been ordained in 1887 in the Lemonweir district convention minutes in 1898.

Here is wife Harriet's obit, such as it is found at FAG:
Town of Eau Pleine Pioneer is Dead

Junction City, WI - Mrs Harriet Kittleson, one of the oldest and best known pioneers of the town of Eau Pleine, died Wednesday morning at her home at 503 Church Street, Stevens Point, where she and her daughter Caroline have lived for the past year.

Mrs Kittleson, nee Harriet Olson, was born in Norway 83 years ago. She is survived by her husband O. Kittleson, two daughters, and one son. She has been confined to her bed for a number of years, and moved to Stevens Point a year ago to receive medical treatment.

Burial will be made in Runkels Cemetery.

The value of searching Olaus is that if he actually came in 1860 or 1861, he was very young to do that on his own. Not impossible just improbable that he wouldn't have had an adult with. Since the travel of both Kittel and Olaus are not established certainly, it's possible that they came together.

In the 1865 census for Live it says her husband has been gone a long time. If he left in 1864, is 2 years a long time or would 4 years be more likely to be considered a long time?

Kittil as a name is often Anglicized to Charles:
