Did Mentz have a brother Isaac?
Isaac Martinsen (25) from Kirkenær emigrated to Canada in June 1907.
He maried Astrid Hansen (01 Jul 1890-26 May 1980) from Denmark in Vancouver in 1919. His parents listed as Martin Martinsen & Berta Olsen.

Hmmm... not sure if this "niece Mrs Jenny Leake of McBride" is the same as Jenny Martinsen Leake (1905-19 Feb 1999)
Jenny Martinsen Leake seems to be Jenny Olufsdatter Leake (Luka)

Yes Jenny is his niece. She is the daughter of Mentz brother Oluf. She was born in Luktorpet in Grue 7 nov 1905. And yes Isak (Isaac) is his brother. This tread about these people from Luktorpet is closely linked to the posting about Agnete Olsdatter who is a close relative of these. Posting done by me earlier this year. All this research is due to an English lady whom have dna matches with Forest Finns of Grue. I am looking for a son that went to England during the war. The english ladys mother has an unknown father suspected to a soldier in England during WW2. If Mentz did not have any children maybe Isaac did. And finally , yes Ovidia is also a sister. She was married with Hjalmar/Helmer before emigration. I was aware only about Mentz emigration prior to this. Thanks

There are 6 familymembers living in British Coloumbia.
Bruce could be the son of Isaac, but who are the mother to Bert and Henry? Did Mentz have a second sister who emigrated to Canada, and married a Van Shaik?

Sons of Mentz' sister Ovidia:
John Helmer Braten, lived in Duncan, B.C., Canada
Martin Braten, lived in Duncan, B.C., Canada

Daughter of Mentz' brother Oluf Luktorpet:
Jenny Martinsen Leake, lived in McBride, B.C., Canada

Bruce Martinson, lived in Vancouver, B.C. Canada

Bert Van Shaik, lived in Duncan, B.C., Canada
Henry Van Shaik, lived in Nanaimo, B.C., Canada

They are mentioned as siblings to John Hialmer Braten longer up here. Maybe Ovidia remarried. It says:SIBLINGS: Martin; Henry Van Shake; Bert Van Shake.
Martin was Johns brother born in Norway 6 apr 1909. But Ovidia,Mentz and Isak had 2 more sisters, Wilhelmine b.10 oct 1876 and Anna b.4 jul 1887. I searched but have not found that they emigrated though.
