The researchers above are looking up records. Below, this is just information on a family tree, I haven't looked up these records, so it could be right, or maybe not. Would be good to know for sure, though, Karen, that this is your family. Do you see your ancestor on the list of children below?

Johannes Haakonsen Kolbo
Born 05 Feb 1822
to parents Haagen Wiigen and Berit
He married Karen Slattum Olsdotter and had 8 children.
He next married Mariett Toreson.
He passed away 27 Oct 1907 in Lodi, Custer, Nebraska, USA.
CHILDREN of Johannes and Karen:
1) Christine Marie Kolbo 1849-1917 born in Nannestad and married Emmit Bainbridge and married Christian Torgersen and married Fred Moehlman and died in Lodi, Custer, Nebraska
2) Hans J Kolbo 1851-1919 born in Nannestad and married Agnetta Johnson
3) Olaus J Kolbo 1853-1932 born in Nannestad and married Christina Lien and died in Lodi, Custer, Nebraska
4) Martin Kolbo 1858-1941 born in Nannestad and married Christina Karstensen and married Pettrine Amelia Samb
5) Dena Caroline Kolbo 1861-1933 born in Coon Prairie, Wisconsin and married Peter Dahl Johnson
6) Karl Johan Kolbo 1863-1921 born in Coon Prairie, Wisconsin and married Luis Berthien Samb and died in LaCrosse, Wisconsin
7) Lars Christian Kolbo 1865-1919 born in Norway and married Antoinne Madsen; died in Seattle
8) Berant J Kolbo 1866-1947 born in Coon Prairie, Wisconsin, and married Minnie Karstensen Matson and died in Belen, Valencia, New Mexico, USA.

A couple of facts above cannot be right (e.g. Lars birth date or place). So take it all with a grain of salt. That said, the Ancestry.com trees are certainly worth checking out and I wouldnt chuck 'em just because some errors may have crept in. Maybe you'll want to contact the tree creators. They are likely cousins. :D

Looking now at US census records, seems as if Berent was called Barney and in 1910 he lived in Custer, Nebraska.
Find-a-Grave memorial for Barney:

A descendant of Barney made this:

Here's Johannes with second wife in 1880 US census:
1880
Coon, Vernon, Wisconsin
Johannes Kolbs 58 born about 1822 Norway, farmer
Marit Kolbs 52 born about 1828 Norway
Johan Kolbs 16 born about 1864 Wisconsin
Bernt Kolbs 14 born about 1866 Wisconsin
Dothea Kolbs 86 MOTHER, widowed, born about 1794 in Norway <----------------this woman fits with mother of first wife Karen

Here is the same census as found in Nordmenn i Wisconsin (Norway digital archives website), the name is indexed as Kolbe. The lower record is for Johannes and family; the upper is a two-page list of Norwegians in Wisconsin surname starting Kolb. You'll see other family members there. Click on "next page" to see all. Click on the blue number to see that person's household members.

The couple Haagen and Berit Wiigen is most likely the one that married Nov 2 1814, 2nd couple: Haagen Andersen, NyeSveen and Berit Oudensdatter, Olstad.

Haagen Andersen, his parents and siblings in 1801.

Berit (= Beret) Oudensdatter, her parents and siblings in 1801.
