Hello eveyone.
Well I feel I have become very familiar with the Telemark region of Norway, and now I have to look in a region less known to me. I found that my mothers side has family from Gausdal. To my dismay I have looked at the list of bygdenboks for Oppland and Gausdal is not listed. Would this be under some other name? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Mange takk!

I am not sure where you looked but this site http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~norway/opplandbb.html#Gausdal

has this information.

Gausdal
Optegnelser om slegter og gaarder i Gausdal 1820 - 1824
By Hans Kraabøl
Published by G. F. Gunnersen, 1922
(Farm histories and genealogy, 1820 - 1824)

Gausdal Bygdehistorie
By Ole Fredrik Bergersen
Published by Gausdal kommune, 1987-1992
(Note: This 5 volume set is only general history, with no farm histories and genealogy)
Volume I. Fra istid til vikingtid: Forhistorie
Volume II. Mellomalderen 1000-1530
Volume III. Folkevekst og Levekar 1530-1830
Volume IV. Endring og Oppbrot 1830-1914
Volume V. Mot var egen tid 1914-1980
Volume VI. Dokkfloy fra Istid til Kraftmagasin

There may not be much gnealogical information in either of those two references.

Thanks Lyndal...
I feel silly I didn't see this. It looks like Hans Kraabøl's book is the one I'm looking for!

I believe parish records could yield more results.

Heidi,
It's funny that the two sides of my paternal grandfather's family,
which settled in New Hope and Alban township of Portage county,
are from Hjartdal and Gausdal. I haven't found a bygdebok to help with
searching and I'd agree that parish records, along with censuses are
your best bet.

Good luck!
Wanda
