....to cmanilla below:
While trying to figure who in our clan was the first to begin the onslaught on America, I'm looking at one Simen Olsen of Roland farm in Faaberg (dob 1824).
Church records strongly suggest he is the Olsen who married Sigrid Pedersdatter. By the 1865 census, they and their brood of four daughters are living as husmand med jord in Faaberg. The family does not re-appear on the 1875 census, and nicely matches other family trees which show them as being first in Wisconsin, and then Minnesota.
Confound it, however, I cannot find any records of their emigrating or arriving. (The arkiverket emigrantprotokoll has never been good to me.I suspect it is programmed to reply 0 TREFF)
Nor do they pop up convincingly as either Olsen or Roland in any censuses or familysearch or newspaper archives that I can find, which makes me very hesitant about accepting the tree-matching as being factual.
This has been a nine-hour investigation for me, which I know is equal to 20 minutes in Norway Heritage time.

Is this not them in the 1875 Census

1875

Same family in the 1865 Census, but two children born after 1865 and two children missing in 1875 that were in the 1865 Census

1865

Takk, Lyndal....but that would seem spooky 'cuz our Anne was in the 1865 Norway census as a six-year old, making her birth date 1859. As Anne Stensing died in 1964, that would seem like one ancient Norwegian/American/human.
Possible but unlikely, no?

Yes but they had a second daughter also named Anne. Here from the 1875 Census

Ole Simensen s 1866 Fåberg
Anna Simensdatter d 1871 Fåberg

1875

That makes her about 92 when she died.

She was only sixty eight in 1940

1940

It is possible that Sigrid was still alive for the 1895 Minnesota Census. There is a Ole Roland age 28 living with a Sigrid Roland age 71 in Minneapolis.

Here is the record for Sigrid Roland living with Ole

Aha!
So they had an Anne in 1859, and then an Anna in 1871, just to confuse amateur genealogy buffs like me. You're awfully good at this stuff, Lyndal. Thank you.
(But my obsession on this gang is waning. The immigration year uncovered by Hopkins means they were not - alas - the first wave of our bunch.)
