Does this death record confirms that the Borre Johansen listed as a son of Johan Mortensen and Mari Christensdatter on municipality 0524 is not the Borre we're looking for? I will try contacting Sarah_Russell23 through Ancestory.com and see if she has any more information. Thank you. You have all worked so hard researching this with so little information.

Your question is worded a little bit difficultly. The Borre in the death record is the son of Johan Mortenson and so cannot be your man.

Here is a pot load of Børre who could be vetted. But I'd suggest that you try getting additional information in US to see if there are any additional clues to origin in Norway.

Børre Johansen b abt 1859 Furnes in 1865:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=7&filnamn=f60414&gardpostnr=300&personpostnr=1764&merk=1764#ovre

Børre Johanson #1, b 21 Nov 1858:
Source information: Hedmark county, Furnes in Vang, Parish register (official) nr. 13 (1855-1879), Birth and baptism records 1859, page 34.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6001&idx_id=6001&uid=ny&idx_side=-34

These below are Børre in the 1865 census who were not Johnson (sons of John) in Norway but whose father's patronymic started with J or were all reasonable variations of Johnson:

Børre Anton Martinson b. abt 1859 østre Toten, father is Martin Johanneson
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=21&filnamn=f60528&gardpostnr=641&personpostnr=4055&merk=4055#ovre

#95 Birth / Baptism Børre Anton b. 29 Mar 1859:
Source information: Oppland county, Østre Toten, Parish register (official) nr. 4 (1857-1865), Birth and baptism records 1859, page 42.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8956&idx_id=8956&uid=ny&idx_side=-42

Børre Christianson b. abt 1861 Gjerpen son of Christian Jørgenson
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=30&filnamn=f60812&gardpostnr=20&personpostnr=118&merk=118#ovre

#13 Børre Christiansen b. 18 Oct 1861
Source information: Telemark county, Gjerpen, Parish register (official) nr. 8A (1857-1871), Birth and baptism records men 1862, page 24.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1367&idx_id=1367&uid=ny&idx_side=-28

Børre Jakobson b abt 1860 Hetland son of Bergithe Olsdatter & Jakob _______ living on Hetland farm, Jonas Ols owner of the farm.:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=39&filnamn=f61126&gardpostnr=204&personpostnr=1387&merk=1387#ovre

#46 Confirmation, Børre Jakobsen b. 18 May 1860:
Source information: Rogaland county, Hetland, Parish register (official) nr. A 4 (1862-1881), Confirmation records 1874, page 99.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6271&idx_id=6271&uid=ny&idx_side=-99
I think this Børe may already have been eliminated as still living in Norway in 1900.
Børe Jonasen. B. abt 1861 Høgsfjorden:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=6&filnamn=f61128&gardpostnr=302&personpostnr=2031&merk=2031#ovre

#51 Børe b. 20 Oct 1861:
Source information: Rogaland county, Forsand in Høgsfjord, Parish register copy nr. B 2 (1855-1882), Birth and baptism records 1861, page 83-84.

I have called Ancestory.com to see if I can contact the owner of the web pages in question. I think it may take some time to contact the owner(s) of the family tree. I will contact you again when I receive any new information. Again, thank you for your time.

You may search & order a copy of the page cited in the Dunseith book about Borre Johnson at this address. There are fees for that but I don't know what the charges are:

Yes - we do have the Dunseith history book. In fact, we have 2 books. One is from Borre's daughter Myrtle. You have been most helpful.

Found this one in the 1900 Census. His father is listed as Jakob Jakobsen. Links to both follow.

Here is an extreme possible, Børge Justeson b. 10 July 1859, confirmation #7 in 1874:

There didn't seem to be anything helpful in the Dunseith history book. No specific dates were given. Can the Borge Justeson you found be traced after his arrival in Barnesville MN in 1882? I don't recall that spelling in any of our records though.

Well Børre / Børge Justeson is a long shot. If he stayed in Minnesota he might be in the 1885 Minnesota state census (searchable at familysearch.org or greatrivers) or if he moved on to North Dakota in time he might be in the 1885 Dakota Territorial census of which the transcription is online (at the same place the biography index is searchable NDSU Archives)

He became a naturalized citizen according to the 1900 census which was a 2 step process and those records might show up someplace online depending on where and when.

Borre who left Norway was a shoemaker--did your guy ever follow that occupation?

But truly I think you need some documentary information like his marriage record and his death certificate. He was married in Rolette county, right, or don't you know?

Did the Dunseith story ever say he took a homestead?

Here is another suggestion I'd make for you to pursue--a possible obituary for Borre. North Dakota has an excellent collection of newspapers on microfilm which might be loaned through ILL with your local public library, Here is the webpage for information about the program:

http://history.nd.gov/archives/whatnewspapers.html

"Although SHSND materials generally do not circulate, most newspapers, North Dakota state censuses, and early atlases are on microfilm and are available through interlibrary loan at a charge of $4 per roll ($2 per roll to North Dakota libraries). We encourage researchers to use this service when extensive searching is required of these materials."

List of Rolette county titles, there are more titles under Dunseith and possibly other Rolette county towns which might also be of interest:

I am ordering the death certificate for Borre Johnson to see if there is additional information on this. But this may take a week or so. I am also checking the Rolette County records for a marriage certificate and location. I am trying to copy and paste the Dunseith History book article, but so far have not been able to do this. I will contact our college library to see if they can obtain Rolette County records/microfilm for the period covering 1888-1914. I will post the information when I receive it. Thank you.
